27 November 2010 Myths and Legends. St John's Smith Square, London SW1P 3HA. This concert will showcase a new composition by Alan Bullard, performed by the Bloomsbury Woodwind Ensemble and the BWE2 Flute and Clarinet Choir. The piece, Journey through Time, provides an opportunity for contrast between the two ensembles. It is a single-movement work in a number of sections and is loosely based on some of the creation stories, but it ends with a mysterious final section in which the musical material unravels, taking us back to the dark chaos of the opening. Throughout, the flute and clarinet ensemble provide a commentary and link between the sections.
Alan Bullard is a full-time composer and his music is performed all over the world: he has written for professional and amateur players of most instruments, but he is particularly known for his choral music, his music for wind instruments, and for his educational music for piano. His website address is www.alanbullard.co.uk
Other pieces will include Walton’s Crown Imperial, Guy Woolfenden’s Gordian Knots, Nina Morris’ Mythical Creatures and Christopher Hussey’s Twisted Skyscape – previously premiered by the Bloomsbury Woodwind Ensemble in 2008.
